One Direction (commonly abbreviated as 1D) are an English-Irish pop boy band based in London, composed of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and previously, Zayn Malik until his departure from the band on 25 March 2015. The group signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records after forming and finishing third in the seventh series of the British televised singing competition The X Factor in 2010. Propelled to international success by social media, One Direction's four albums, Up All Night (2011), Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013) and Four (2014) topped charts in most major markets, and generated hit singles including "What Makes You Beautiful", "Live While We're Young", and "Story of My Life". Their fifth studio album, Made in the A.M., was released in November 2015.

The vamps are a british pop rock band consisting of Brad Simpson (lead vocals and guitar), James McVey (lead guitar and vocals), Connar Ball (Bass guitar and vocals) and Tristan Evans (drums and vocals). They first gained fame in late 2012 with cover songs uploaded to youtube, leading to comparisons with One Direction and being labeled as a boy band. They were signed to mercury records in November 2012. They supported McFly on their memory lane tour in early 2013, and also performed at festivals around the UK as support acts for artists such as The Wanted, JLS, Little Mix, Lawson and Demi Lovato.

5 Seconds of summer (commonly abbreviated as 5SOS) are an australian rock band from Sydney that formed in 2011. The group was originally Youtube celebrities, posting videos of themselves covering songs from various artists during 2011 and early 2012. They rose to international fame while touring with One Direction on the Take me Home Tour. The group have been referred to as a pop punk band in the media, though the members reject this description, claiming that they desire to play more music than just pop punk.
